This was a regular picnic park as I was growing up. Haven’t been there in years. Never went in November. The winds off the lake were brisk and chilly. The dunes and grasses along the beach are unique. Much of the lake view path is on corded planks for easier walking than loose sand. The information facilities were closed for the season. We also checked out the campgrounds, which looked well spaced, level and, of course, leaf covered.
Finally, we drove up to the forest trails. A wide mowed path through woods and Prarie grasses. Even with a map, the intersections were a bit confusing. Trail could have been marked better.

Sheer beauty of Lake Michigan, with sand dunes, beautiful wooden walking paths, and we even saw a white tail deer about 20 yards away! Wisconsin is a blessed state to have this lake that is really like being at the ocean!

This is a beautiful state park ~ need state sticker to get in. There is camping and a north and south beach area. Beach is nice in both areas but not much shade so I recommend a shade tent or beach umbrella. Finding a parking spot in the north beach area was quite the challenge ~ spots are limited. South beach had plenty of parking. Doesn’t seem too handicap friendly in some areas. Had running water bathroom in both areas. Picnic tables. North Beach is dog friendly whereas South Beach is not. Would recommend going earlier in the day on a weekend. Also has hiking trails ~ which look beautiful. Family friendly. I highly recommend going here. We had a blast at both beaches.

What a beautiful park! I have limited mobility and use a wheelchair. I really appreciated the wheelchair accessible trails at this park. And the wheelchair accessible cabin is amazing! They thought of everything! The bathroom has a roll in shower with a bath bench. There is also a shower wheelchair available if needed. The bathroom sink is a good height and there is room underneath. Bonus points for the handle to turn the water on being placed at the front of the counter so it is easy to reach. Also, the soap dispenser is at the front of the counter.
The kitchen has a section of counter that is lowered for ease of use from the chair. There is a refrigerator, stovetop, microwave, and coffee maker.
The living space has a lift chair, a couch with pullout bed and a wide chair with pull out bed. The bedroom has two power hospital beds. A lift is available if needed. There is also a cot available if needed and a commode chair. There is a nice “porch” room with lots of windows and a bird feeder right outside. There is electricity with plenty of outlets, air conditioning and heat. Outside there is a nice patio with benches. There is also a grill, campfire ring and picnic table. One of the wheelchair accessible trails is right next to the cabin. And, there is a beach wheelchair as well.

As you already know the park is beautiful. Can’t go wrong with a nice relaxing boardwalk trail through the sand dunes while listening to the waves of lake Michigan.

As far as why three stars. The reality is the campground is designed very poorly. Specifically electric sites. A large majority of the sites when you back in your camper door is against woods or opens to road with picnic table/fire pit on other side of camper. The sites seem to be designed backwards are are made for pull in but they are back in. Lots of wasted space in the campground due to poor site design. Short site driveway spaces for no reason. The new paved site pads aren’t level which is strange because they seem new. Every time I’ve stayed there are people with multiple tents and a camper on one site with too many people- which I’ve never seen enforced. I’ll also add restrooms closed early this season with no notice on booking.

Beautiful to visit. The campground is disappointing.
